International Youth Day Block Party: Celebrating Our Youth And Our Community
On August 12, 2026, our community came together to celebrate International Youth Day with an unforgettable International Youth Day Block Party!
With the new school year just around the corner, the event provided an opportunity for youth to come together, build connections, discover new opportunities and celebrate the community around them. It also gave our team the chance to meet and connect with youth -some of them who may not have previously engaged with our work-, helping create pathways for them to return and/or participate in our ongoing programs and services.
Despite a rainy day, the turnout was incredible. Over 60 youth, families, community members, staff, mentors, partners and supporters came together for an afternoon and evening filled with music, food, creativity, mentorship, celebration and, most importantly, community.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the day such a success — especially our dedicated staff, collaborators, volunteers and, above all, our generous sponsors. Your support made it possible to create a welcoming space where young people could connect, celebrate their achievements and learn more about the opportunities available to them as they head into a new school year.
Celebrating Youth Achievement
One of the biggest highlights of the day was celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of students in our community through our Scholarship Awards which turned 30 years this year. Fifteen outstanding students received $2,500 toward their tuition, recognizing their hard work, dedication, brilliance and commitment to their education.
A heartfelt thank you goes to our friends at CIBC for supporting these scholarships and investing in the future of our youth. Your generosity is helping young people pursue their educational goals and build brighter futures.
A Day Full of Opportunities, Creativity and Fun
Not everything was a celebration: our Block Party was also about creating opportunities for youth to learn, connect and express themselves. Throughout the day our youth had the opportunity to:
Connect with inspiring mentors at our mentorship tables and have meaningful conversations about their goals, interests and futures.
Explore hair and beauty skills, with an amazing barber offering onsite services, and a talented braider teaching youth different braiding techniques.
Get creative in the studio, where youth got the chance to participate in music recording sessions and explore their artistic talents.
Compete in our ping pong championship, bringing out plenty of friendly competition and excitement!
And, of course, no party is complete without great music and great food. Our DJ kept the energy high throughout the event, creating the perfect soundtrack for the celebration, while Mr. Corn kept everyone well-fed with their delicious BBQ. The evening ended with a surprise when the cream truck provided the perfect treat to end things on a sweet note.

Ending the Night on a High Note
We couldn't think of a better way to end th celebration than with a raffle! Every participant received a raffle ticket, with the chance to take home some incredible prizes, including MLSE jerseys, a laptop and a PS5. Congratulations to the lucky winners!
A huge shoutout and thank-you to MLSE Launchpad for helping make these prizes possible and for continuing to support opportunities that bring joy and excitement to young people in our community. We are incredibly grateful for your support!

Events like the International Youth Day Block Party remind us of what is possible when a community comes together.
A special thank you to Councillor Frances Nunziata for joining us to congratulate our scholarship winners, and showing her support for our youth and our community. We are grateful for her presence and for taking the time to celebrate alongside the young people and families who make our community so vibrant.
