“Im Employed”
Saama’s Story: Building Confidence, One Step at a Time
Want to help create more stories like these?
When Saama first connected with For Youth Initiative (FYI), she wasn’t just looking for a job—she was looking for a place where her goals mattered. That search led her to a warm welcome at Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre, where FYI staff introduced her to the supports available through their employment programs.
How FYI Showed Up
With 1:1 support from her FYI caseworker, Saama built a stronger resume and cover letter, explored job applications, and practiced her interview skills. The encouragement she received made a real difference—helping her feel more confident and prepared, not just for interviews, but for being in a workplace.
“What drew me in was how friendly and supportive everyone was. It felt like a safe space to ask questions and actually get help with the things I needed to move forward.”
How Support Took Shape
One-on-one caseworker guidance
Resume and interview preparation
Ongoing confidence-building support
That preparation paid off. Today, Saama is working for the City of Toronto and planning her next step: studying entrepreneurship at college or university. Her goal is to launch a business that uplifts her community.
Where She Is Now
“The support I’ve received from FYI helped me believe in myself. Now I know that I can build something meaningful.”
Program Highlight: Empower U
