Training Overview 

The first part of a two-part series, Building a Team: Staff and Volunteer Management workshop focused on how to orient, prepare, and welcome staff and volunteers to your initiative. We discussed elements that are crucial to the development of a strong, well-informed, and effective team. We discussed the importance of setting clear expectations and practiced communicating those expectations in role play.

The workshop participants supported each other through analysis and feedback of our role play work and together we worked out our best practices for staff and volunteer management, particularly around on-boarding.

Outcomes/Follow-Up Activities

Part two of this workshop series will delve deeper into what staff and volunteer supervision can look like, explore management styles, and ultimately provide us with some tools and practices to try out and assess in our day-to-day work.

Feedback

The participants really enjoyed the process of building best practices collectively through role play and discussion. They felt what they learned was very applicable to their work and staff teams.

The participants would like to see more resources specifically around management techniques and addressing challenges with staff.
